KhaoZ Media, Youth Led Voluntary Community Media Group In York, UKElevator Pitch:KhaoZ Media wants to provide support for young people to access voluntary opportunities in the City of York by providing a vehicle to express their views and opinions through peer to peer learning and to provide informal learning opportunities to develop new media skills which will support young people to promote themselves and form partnerships.NeedEveryone would like to have their voice heard in some capacity; KhaoZ Media gives young people and community groups a voice and presence through community media.This is important because it's providing relevant skills in new media for young people and/or community groups who would benefit from an understanding of new media and technologies. It's also enabling individuals and groups to produce their own media content in an innovative and creative way.Our target audience is young people aged 16-25 from different cultures and backgrounds who we would like to encourage through personal development and progression routes into other volunteering opportunities, work and format and informal educational opportunities.By working in partnership with community groups across the city we can generate positive interest in community events through promotion and exposure via the KhaoZ Media platform to give other community groups a voice.Approach:We aim to create a community for volunteering and media organisations based within York and forge links with the local council and local and national commercial media companies so that we can support each other and increase exposure.We would like to engage with our audience through workshops, weekly and monthly meetings, events, informal and formal training as well as via the web, video, internet radio, podcasts and journalism.We would like to make an impact by challenging people's perceptions of what a youth media network (formed by volunteers) can do, and in turn shake things up within the city with various community events which will allow for much communication.Videos (71)
